In Memory of Gordon ā€œThe Captainā€ KY6V - SK

It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of our dear friend and respected ham radio operator, known to so many simply as Gordon ā€œThe Captainā€ KY6V.

Recently the Captain suffered a fall that required an emergency hip operation. Although he was moved to a rehabilitation facility to recover, he sadly passed away on Monday, December 1st.

The Captain was more than just a familiar voice on the airwaves, he was the founder of SCARSVOIP, a community he built with heart, dedication, and a sincere desire to bring operators together. Through his leadership and vision, SCARSVOIP became a welcoming home for countless hams over the years who found friendship, support, and shared purpose on its nets.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Kathy, K6SUN known fondly as ā€œMiss Sunshineā€ and his son Jonathan. Their partnership, both on and off the air, was a source of warmth and inspiration to many. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her during this difficult time.

Whether you knew The Captain through a QSO, a word of encouragement, or the unmistakable warmth and steadiness in his voice, you knew you were in the presence of someone special. His kindness, humour, and passion for ham radio touched operators far and wide, and his legacy will continue to resonate across the airwaves he loved so deeply.

As we honour KY6V, let us carry forward the camaraderie and generosity he brought to every contact.

Silent key, but never forgotten.

SCARSVOIP ADDS MORSE CODE TO ITS NODE AVAILABILITY

Effective immediately SCARSVOIP has added CW (morse code) to all its current node structures. The requirements and startup suggestions are mentioned below.

To start with, the policy on its use indicates that CW can only be used during the off time of any of our voice nets. This gives CW ample space to have single or multiple contacts during the course of any day. If the interest increases, we would be encouraged to create a CW net.

The easiest and quickest way to get started is to connect a code oscillator to the audio input of your selected node or use a software program like FLDIGI.
